I’d like to give you a gift. The secret sauce of how to get more done and how to get the right things done.

"Productive people are productive because they use tools to help keep them focused."  - Sarah Tetlow, Founder of Firm Focus

We are all addicted to the dopamine release that distractions and interruptions create (email, text messages, social media, news, squirrels). Productive people are productive because they use tools to help keep them focused.

This is one of my favorite productivity tools. The Time Timer. I won't go anywhere business related without taking the Time Timer with me (see below for recommendations on which one to order). In fact, my Time Timer even went with me to Mexico City when I spoke there for a conference!

Below are the 3 ways to invite Time Timer into your life and get the right things done:

1. Staying Focused.

Set the Time Timer when you have XX minutes to count down to an event. For example, if you have a meeting in 15-Minutes, dismiss the email reminder, and set the Time Timer for 14-Minutes. Then get back to what you were working on before the interruption. When it beeps, you have one minute to wrap up what you are doing and transition to the meeting.

2. Staying on Track.

Set the Time Timer when you're in a meeting to keep you on track with the timed agenda and/or the length of the meeting. My client sessions are ~45-Minutes and I set my Time Timer for that period of time for each client session.

This allows me to:

a) manage the time effectively, and

b) end on time for both my and my client's benefit.

3. Overcoming Procrastination.

Yes, this is a method you can use to overcome procrastination. What is that Project or Task that you cannot seem to get started on? It's time to get started. You have the space on your calendar. No excuses. Set the Time Timer for XX minutes and Just.Get.Started.

Say to yourself, "Just work on this for 25-Minutes, and then you can take a break."

It works wonders for overcoming procrastination.

To order your Time Timer right now, visit the website (you can't miss it. I've included it all over this blog). I recommend selecting the Original 8" | 60 Minutes timer, which you can find 1/2 way down the home page. Although, any of the timers will change our life today!

What do you say?  Are you ready to be a productive person?
